The story

When Wayne and Jia Hui first shared their idea with me, they said they wanted the film to feel lively and fun, but still authentic. I remember thinking this one would really test both filming and editing rhythm.

The morning started at Jia Hui’s home, with gatecrash games at the void deck. It was already loud and playful, then we moved back up to the house and Jia Hui made the guys sing to her grandmothers. I had to hold my laugh behind camera because everyone was trying to keep a straight face, but nobody could. That scene still makes me smile whenever I think about it.

After that fun chaos, we moved to Church of Divine Mercy for simple portraits and the Catholic ceremony. The mood shifted naturally. It became quieter, more grounded, and more reflective.

Once ceremony ended, I had to leave immediately to start the SDE edit. That part is always pressure, but this was the challenge I wanted: keep the cut lively, keep it emotional, and still weave the solemnisation in properly.

In the evening, I reached Baia for tea ceremony coverage. Their outfits stood out straight away. It was not traditional kua, but custom made oriental styling. Jia Hui wore a white cheongsam, and Wayne wore a matching black oriental look.

When the same day edit played at night, it landed exactly the way they hoped. Fun, heartfelt, and true to them. Honestly, this one is still a favourite for me.
