The story
Alfred and Joanne are the shy kind, but in a very sweet way. I kept things relaxed from the start, and once they realised they did not need to perform for the camera, the day became full of small, genuine moments.
I began in their Conrad suite with warm light and a cosy, unhurried couple shoot. After that, I headed out with them to Dempsey Hill. They rented a Jeep and it immediately made the whole session feel more carefree. A little wind, a little laughter, and suddenly the shyness turned into comfortable smiles.
Before their ROM, Alfred and Joanne exchanged heartfelt words with each other in the hotel room. It was private, quiet, and honestly one of my favourite parts of the day. From there, I moved into the solemnisation, then the tea ceremony with their immediate family. You could feel how close they were with their parents, the kind of closeness that does not need big gestures.
At the lunch banquet, both sets of parents marched in first, and the couple followed after. It was simple, meaningful, and very Singapore in the best way. In the final film, I wanted it to feel like them, gentle, warm, and full of the little details they might not notice until they watch it back.
